The color of the skin can be broadly classified into three categories – fair, medium, and dark. It is recommended for you to choose your lipstick based on the color of your skin, as well as the colors of outfits that you generally wear. Any mismatch can end up making you look either too dressed up or too dramatic. In some cases, when people with dark skin use very light or neutral lipstick shades, the shades don't seem to show at all or impart a very ashy look to the lips.
At Barva Skin Therapie, we have 20 lipstick shades suited to all Indian skin colors. Some of the shades are suited to all the three categories of skin colors elaborated above, whereas the others are suited only to specific skin colors. Let us break this down for you:
Although fair skin has been considered to be the prettiest in Indian culture for several years, and there have been many biases in Indian society about fair-skinned women, it is important to note that women with fair complexion can experiment with a very limited range of shades when it comes to makeup, especially lipsticks. This is because most shades that are very bright or very dark tend to look very dramatic and jazzy on fair skin. In fact, certain browns, deep reds, and dark purples tend to make fair-skinned women look much older than they actually are!
Among the Barva Skin Therapie lipsticks, we recommend the following shades for fair skin:
- Cotton Candy (313)
- Elegant Red (612)
- Fiery (604)
- Flame (608)
- Fuchsia (336)
- Natural Brown (408)
- Orchid (222)
- Pink Pearl (702)
- Pomegranate (208)
- Rose Damask (225)
- Seduce (329)
- Uptown Pink (325)
Medium (Wheatish) Skin
In case of medium/wheatish skin, which is the most common skin color found in India, most colors go very well without looking dressy. Women with this skin color can experiment with a wide range of shades when it comes to makeup. Most colors don't look jazzy or gaudy, hence, if your color is medium, you need not hesitate to choose any shade of lipstick, apart from neutrals such as very light pink or brown and very very bright orange, red, and pink.
Among the Barva Skin Therapie lipsticks, we recommend the following shades for medium/wheatish skin:
- Burgundy (206)
- Elegant Red (612)
- Flame (608)
- Glory (415)
- Purple Patch (220)
- Passion (504)
- Pomegranate (208)
- Seduce (329)
- Uptown Pink (325)
Dark Skin
Gone are the days when people looked down upon dark skin. Now, dark skin is considered among the most appealing and attractive skin colors around the world. But as is the case with any skin color, the shade of lipstick that you wear can make or break your look. Hence, it is very important to choose the correct lipstick.
In case of dark skin, most medium to dark shades of pinks, reds, and even browns suit dark skins well. The key is not to go overboard with very bright and light colors, especially those with orange or blue undertones. However, those with warm undertones, such as copper, chocolate, terra cotta, etc. look really flattering on dark skin.
Among the Barva Skin Therapie lipsticks, we recommend the following shades for dark skin:
- Burgundy (206)
- Earth Matte (412)
- Elegant Red (612)
- Glory (415)
- Lilac (217)
- Mauve (215)
- Passion (504)
- Pomegranate (208)
- Purple Patch (220)
- Wine Red (616)
We must note here that the above-mentioned shades are not hard and fast. These are just suggestions or guidelines based on our knowledge and experience with customers over the past several years. We encourage customers to experiment with different shades from our range of organic clarified butter lipsticks and choose the ones that they like.
