On this page, we have defined some of the most commonly used terms in the beauty industry pertaining to the ingredients used in our products. We hope this helps you get to know our products better and what we stand for. For answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), visit our Benefits page.
DEFINITIONS
Cruelty-free – “In the animal rights movement, cruelty-free is a label for products or activities that do not harm or kill animals anywhere in the world. Products tested on animals are not considered cruelty-free, since these tests are often painful and cause the suffering and death of millions of animals every year.” (as defined in Wikipedia)
We can proudly say that all the products offered by Barva Skin Therapie are 100% cruelty-free. We do not test our products on animals. The only 2 ingredients that are obtained from our animal friends are ghee (which is made from cow’s milk) and beeswax which is made from honeycomb. Neither the cows nor the bees are harmed in the process of obtaining ghee or beeswax.
Not tested on animals – Similar to being cruelty-free. Our products are not tested on animals, and our manufacturing process too does not result in the harming, torture, or death of animals.
Vegetarian – Vegetarian products can be defined as those whose ingredients are procured from plant sources and dairy, but not meat, poultry, and fish. In addition, vegetarian products do not contain other animal ingredients, which include animal bones, animal fat, fir, nails, or any other body parts of animals. However, they can contain animal products (NOT ingredients) such as butter, cream, ghee, beeswax etc. The procurement of these substances does not involve torturing animals or killing/slaughtering. Also, these substances are a part of a vegetarian diet.
In case of the products offered by Barva Skin Therapie, the makeup and skin care range contains ghee and beeswax, hence we do not claim that our products are ‘vegan.’ However, since all the ingredients we use are plant-based and dairy-based, we say that our products are vegetarian.
Vegan – This is one step further from vegetarianism. Products that contain only plant-based ingredients are termed as vegan. Not only are vegan products cruelty-free, but they also do not contain any dairy products, such as milk, butter, cheese, etc. as these are obtained from animals.
In case of Barva Skin Therapie, the wash-off products, i.e. the Revitalizing Shampoo, Refreshing Conditioner, Lavender Body Wash, Face Wash, and Easy Shave Shaving Cream, Body Oil, can be termed as vegan because they do not contain organic ghee or beeswax. However, the skin care products and makeup products contain cow’s ghee and some of them contain beeswax, which, as stated above, are vegetarian but not vegan.
Natural Ingredients – Ingredients that are derived from nature. Such ingredients are not chemically/synthetically processed in a laboratory.
Organic – Natural ingredients that are obtained using organic farming methods. The farms where these are cultivated are certified organic farms that strictly follow organic farming practices, such as the use of natural fertilizers without any chemicals, pesticides, insecticides, etc. In addition, organic produce is not genetically engineered or hybrid. It retains the original taste, color, and nutrients of the plant.
In case of Barva Skin Therapie products, we try and use organic ingredients as far as possible. However, these are not always available or certified organic. The products themselves are not certified organic.
Ayurvedic – Products formulated based on the principles of Ayurveda. The Ayurveda suggests the use of different ingredients that are found in nature in combination with each other for the treatment of various diseases/ailments, as well as for enhancing the beauty of our skin & hair.
The Ayurveda is a source of inspiration for most of our products. Our formulations consist of the best combination of ingredients as prescribed by the Ayurveda.
Herbal – Herbal products are therapeutic, medical products derived from plants. They are used as health supplements as well as for other therapeutic purposes. Herbal products are available in the form of powders, capsules, tablets, extracts, teas, etc.
As Barva Skin Therapie products are not medicines, they do not fall under this category.
We love to work with ingredients that enhance the beauty of your skin & hair without causing any harm or adverse effects. You will find some of our favourite ingredients in most of our products as we firmly believe in their goodness.
