All You Need to Know about SPF

The term SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It is a relative measurement of the amount of sun protection that a sunscreen cream or lotion can offer you in terms of shielding your skin against Ultraviolet (UV) rays. It is important to note that SPF is not an ingredient, but a quality of a product, which offers protection against sun damage.

Why do we Need Sun Protection?
UVA rays are capable of reaching the dermal layer of the skin and damaging elastic tissue & collagen. The elastic tissue is the layer in which cells that darken the skin are present. Although most people seek to look tanned and consider tanning to be healthy, it is actually a sign of DNA damage. It indicates that the skin has darkened in an attempt to protect from further damage to the skin, and this is likely to lead to the mutation of cells, which can result in skin cancer.

How much SPF Should an Effective Sunscreen Contain to Offer Effective Sun Protection?
The amount of SPF in a product indicates the amount of time that it can offer protection to your skin against sunburn. For instance, depending upon your skin type, if your skin starts getting burnt after five minutes of sun exposure without sunscreen, the application of a sunscreen that contains SPF 30 will offer protection for 30 X 5 minutes (150 minutes). However, this can vary depending upon other factors such as the following:

  • The quantity of sunscreen that you have applied
  • Weather/climatic conditions
  • Your skin type
  • The amount of sweat

It is recommended that you use an SPF of 15 to 50 depending upon your skin tone and skin type.

Which natural ingredients offer SPF?
Pure cow's ghee, or clarified butter, is the best natural source of SPF. It gets absorbed into the skin rapidly. Apart from SPF, it has a range of other benefits, which include the following:

  • Ghee is a natural moisturizer that is effective even on seriously dry skin
  • It provides relief from burns, wounds, scars, herpes, etc.
  • It helps prevent aging
  • It lightens dark circles
  • It brightens up tired eyes
  • It cures chapped lips
  • It has skin whitening properties due to which your skin glows
  • It treats scalp infections

Hence, you may have noticed that most of the skin care products offered by Barva Skin Therapie, as well as the color cosmetics, which include lipsticks, foundation, BB cream, and kajal, contain cow's ghee as the primary ingredient.

The cow's gee in our products is organic. It gets rapidly absorbed into your skin and provides all the nourishment and sun protection that it needs. The remaining ingredients form a barrier against other environmental factors that cause damage to your skin. Hence, even tough we do not claim that our products, apart from SPF foundation, offer sun protection, they definitely do to a certain extend. In addition, they help repair the skin damage that has already been caused by sun exposure, which includes tanning, patchy and uneven skin tone, etc. Do try them out and write to us about the difference you have experienced in your skin tone and skin repair as compared to before.
